Crews have demolished the vacant Dodge City Steakhouse building along U.S. 601 in Mount Airy to make way for a 7 Brew Coffee location. Heavy equipment has been on site in recent days at the location in Forrest Oaks Shopping Center, and by the weekend the former restaurant had largely been leveled with only piles of rubble left behind.
The restaurant closed abruptly during the spring, which an employee said at the time was due to lack of business. It was disclosed then that a 7 Brew Coffee outlet was headed to the site. The razing was required because 7 Brew needs a different configuration: Dodge City was a typical restaurant with a large indoor dining space, while 7 Brew is a drive-through-only operation on a smaller scale.
It is not yet known when construction will occur, and an opening date has not been announced. The chain is headquartered in Arkansas and now has more than 750 locations nationwide, offering coffee, energy drinks, lemonade, tea and smoothies. Dodge City Steakhouse opened in early 2021 at the U.S. 601 site where Ruby Tuesday operated for 16 years before closing in 2020 at the height of the pandemic.
