Drivers in Martinsville, Henry County and Patrick County should plan for heavier traffic near Martinsville Speedway and delays in several work zones this weekend, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation's weekly traffic alert.

Fans coming from Roanoke, Stuart and areas north and west should follow U.S. 220 south and U.S. 58 east, continue past the speedway interchange and turn right onto the track access road about a mile east of the U.S. 220 interchange. Drivers from Danville and points east should follow signs to the track's back gate off the bypass. Those coming from Greensboro and areas south should watch electronic message boards and follow police direction, with through traffic using the left lane.

Work also continues at the intersection of Virginia 8 and Virginia 836, where flagging will be limited to 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Traffic on Route 836 is being shifted onto a gravel surface during pipe replacement, and VDOT expects that shift to last about three months. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2026.
