First Assistant United States Attorney Robert N. Tracci announced Tuesday, Oct. 13 the release of the first Project Safe Neighborhoods Annual Report for Roanoke, Lynchburg and Danville.
The report highlights the district's ongoing efforts to reduce violent crime by enhancing law enforcement partnerships across federal, state and local agencies, including Virginia sheriff's offices, police departments and Commonwealth's Attorneys, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. It underscores the impact of three major PSN operations conducted in Danville, Roanoke and Lynchburg, each focused on identifying and prioritizing drivers of violent crime and removing them from the community, as well as seizing illegal firearms and narcotics from the streets.
"The extraordinary success of combined law enforcement operations in Danville, Roanoke, and Lynchburg over the last year is a direct result of the cooperation, dedication and professionalism of our local, state, and federal partners," Tracci said. "This office will seek maximum accountability against those who violate federal law in the Western District of Virginia and further enhance partnerships to ensure that every citizen of this district can live with safety and dignity in their communities." The PSN initiative remains the Department of Justice's program for reducing violent crime, with principles of evidence-based strategies, targeted enforcement and rapid response.
