— Flash flooding can turn an ordinary creek crossing into a dangerous situation in a hurry. For one 99-year-old North Carolinian, getting to safety required a little help from some emergency responders who weren't about to let rising water have the final say.

Members of the Winston-Salem Fire Department’s Swift Water Rescue Team joined Burke County Emergency Services and Emergency Management to help secure a footbridge over a swollen creek, allowing the 99-year-old resident to reach safety amid flash flooding.

The operation brought together local and state emergency responders to help navigate hazardous conditions as floodwaters surged through the area.

The Winston-Salem Fire Department praised the teamwork, highlighting the collaboration among agencies working together to protect lives.

When the water rises, teamwork can make all the difference — and this time, it helped one North Carolina senior make it to safety.
