MAPLE HEIGHTS — A working smoke alarm helped three adults and three children escape a house fire without injuries Friday evening, according to the Maple Heights Fire Department.
Firefighters were dispatched shortly after 6 p.m. on Friday, October 23, to a home in the 20600 block of Applegate Road. Crews arrived to find heavy flames coming from the front of the house.
All six occupants made it outside safely after being alerted by the smoke alarm. Firefighters confirmed everyone had escaped before bringing the blaze under control.
The fire caused extensive damage to the main level of the home and also damaged a neighboring house.
Firefighters from Maple Heights, Bedford, Garfield Heights, North Randall, Bedford Heights and Valley View responded.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Fire officials are reminding residents to test smoke alarms regularly and ensure everyone in the household knows how to escape during an emergency.
