— Nearly 200 pounds of prescription drugs were collected during Danville Police Department’s latest Drug Take Back event, helping keep potentially dangerous medications out of the wrong hands.

Police reported that a total of 197.4 pounds of prescription drugs were collected during Saturday’s event. The department thanked everyone who stopped by and participated in the effort.

The Drug Take Back initiative provides residents with an opportunity to safely dispose of unwanted or unused medications, helping reduce the risk of accidental poisoning, misuse and prescription drug abuse.

Danville police said details about the next Drug Take Back event, planned for spring 2027, will be announced in the coming months.

Residents who need to dispose of prescription medications before the next event can find information about disposal locations and options through the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration at DEA.gov.
