Rockingham County's Board of Elections voted in October to begin counting early-voting ballots at 5 p.m. on Election Day at the board office in Reidsville, citing changes in state law and guidance for the schedule.
The resolution, approved at the board's Oct. 20 meeting, means counting can begin before polls close at 7:30 p.m., but staff emphasized that results will not be announced before voting ends.
Rockingham voters are casting ballots today in races including sheriff, state Senate District 26 and local contests, and county elections officials will post unofficial results as precincts report. Statewide early-voting results may be delayed because of technical issues at precincts in a handful of counties and extended voting hours at a few locations.
