Seven-Foot Problem: Collinsville Supervisor Calls Out Walmart Over Overgrown Grass
COLLINSVILLE, Va. — Henry County Supervisor Chris Lawless is asking big business to do its part to keep Collinsville looking clean after finding a serious case of overgrown grass and weeds near Walmart.
Lawless recently inspected the area around Walmart Supercenter and said the grass and weeds had grown to more than seven feet tall in places.
That's less “landscaping problem” and more “nature is reclaiming the property.”
Lawless has now reached out to Walmart, asking the retail giant to address the overgrown vegetation and get the area under control.
The Collinsville District supervisor has previously raised concerns about trash and property maintenance in the area. During a Henry County budget work session earlier this year, Lawless specifically said he was concerned about trash problems and wanted to see funding available for code enforcement.
The latest inspection puts the spotlight on the responsibilities of large commercial properties to maintain their surroundings and keep highly visible areas clean and presentable.
For a community trying to attract shoppers and businesses, seven-foot weeds probably aren't exactly the curb appeal anyone had in mind.
