The Rockingham County Board of Education is scheduled to hold a work session Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Central Administrative Offices at 511 Harrington Highway in Eden. Work sessions give board members time to work through material in detail ahead of their next regular meeting, which is set for Nov. 12 at the same location.

The board's recent regular meetings have carried a heavy agenda. On Oct. 13 the board reviewed the 2028-2031 capital outlay request, the 2027 board meeting schedule and school improvement plans for low-performing and non-low-performing schools, and members received an update on the new Reidsville Elementary School. The board also approved a request for proposals for the Draper School Head Start renovation project, along with budget amendments and gifts, grants and donations.

The district is deep into a school consolidation that involves four schools, with the new Reidsville Elementary School set to serve students from the old South End Elementary and Moss Street Elementary. Demolition is under way at the old South End campus on South Park Drive, and the new building is planned to accommodate 650 students, with Moss Street set to become a pre-K and alternative school.
