With two weeks left to vote early for the November midterm election, the number of ballots cast is growing significantly in Lynchburg and Danville.
Sunday voting was open at polling places across the Commonwealth on Oct. 18, with another Sunday voting opportunity scheduled for next Sunday. The last day to cast a vote early is Oct. 31. At the Lynchburg Registrar's Office, General Registrar Trish Jones said numbers reflect strong turnout. "We have already crossed 5,000 in-person voters for early voting. And then, you know, absentee ballots. So already we've had around 6,600 people cast a ballot for this election," Jones said, noting the total is already beating past midterm elections.
In Danville, Registrar Peggy Petty said midterm turnout has doubled what it was in 2022. "We've, right now, hit 2,800. We've still got, you know, two weeks to go. Compared to 2022, we had right at a little over 1,000," Petty said. Voter Kayla Robinson said she voted to make sure her voice was heard, and that she would love to see more young people getting out and voting. "It's very important to vote because, mainly because my kids' future, that's my grandkids' future, that's my main concern," said Lynchburg voter Kelley Johnson.
