Blue Ridge Regional Airport in Henry County is in line for more than $5 million in state money for terminal construction, according to a Sept. 4 announcement from Gov. Abigail Spanberger's office.
The award is part of nearly $40 million from the Commonwealth Aviation Fund, awarded by the Virginia Aviation Board, for projects at 65 public-use airports across Virginia. Elsewhere in the region, Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport is listed for more than $1 million in maintenance and repair work.
The funding follows local steps on the airport's growth: in July, Henry County's Board of Zoning Appeals scheduled a hearing on a Blue Ridge Airport Authority special-use permit to expand the airport use at 525 Airport Road in the Horsepasture District. The state announcement does not give a construction schedule or the terminal's design, so timing will depend on the airport authority's next steps.
