Martinsville officials are reminding residents that door-to-door sales activity in the city requires a local peddler permit, a step that includes a criminal background check and police approval before identification is issued.
In the city notice posted April 6, 2026, the Commissioner of the Revenue said permitted sellers must carry the city-issued credential while soliciting products or services in neighborhoods.
Officials also said residents can ask sellers to show the permit and should report concerns if no permit is provided, framing the process as a practical household safety step during spring solicitation activity.
The reminder does not apply to school or nonprofit fundraising activity, which the city says is exempt from the permit requirement.
