Morning flood update: The National Weather Service continues a Flash Flood Warning for Franklin County, southeastern Roanoke County, Roanoke and Salem through 11:15 a.m. EDT Sunday, October 11. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected around Roanoke, Salem, Vinton, Rocky Mount, Boones Mill, Ferrum and Penhook.
Radar and gauges indicated 2 to 4 inches of rain had fallen, with another 1 to 2 inches possible. Flash flooding may affect small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, underpasses and other low-lying locations.
Boone-area warning: The Flood Warning for parts of Ashe, Watauga and Wilkes counties has been extended through 10 a.m. Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and low-lying locations remains imminent or occurring around Boone, Blowing Rock, Deep Gap, Todd, Foscoe, Seven Devils and Aho.
Martinsville and northern Piedmont advisory: The Flood Advisory has been extended through 11 a.m. for western Rockingham, Stokes and southeastern Surry counties in North Carolina and Henry, Patrick and southern Franklin counties plus Martinsville in Virginia. Rapid river rises have already caused minor flooding around Eden, Martinsville, Rocky Mount, Wentworth, Mayodan, Madison and Pilot Mountain.
Do not drive onto flooded roads or around barricades. Continue to use caution even where rain has eased because streams may keep rising.
