Weather alert update: Flood Advisories remain in effect Sunday afternoon across parts of the Roanoke Valley, Martinsville and Henry County, and the Boone area as creeks and rivers remain elevated after prolonged rainfall.
Roanoke region: An advisory remains in effect through 3 p.m. EDT for south-central Bedford County, northwestern Pittsylvania County, northeastern Floyd County, Franklin County, southeastern Roanoke County, Roanoke and Salem. Minor flooding is already occurring after 1.5 to 3 inches of rain. Another 0.5 to 1 inch is possible around Roanoke, Salem, Vinton, Rocky Mount, Boones Mill, Ferrum and Penhook.
Martinsville and Henry County: An advisory remains in effect through 3:45 p.m. Minor flooding has been observed along Blackberry Creek near Bassett and along the Smith River after 1.5 to 2.5 inches of overnight rain. The advisory includes Martinsville, Bassett, Ridgeway, Villa Heights, Fieldale, Collinsville and Horse Pasture.
Boone area: An advisory remains in effect through 4 p.m. for south-central Ashe County, Watauga County and southwestern Wilkes County. Rain has ended, but minor flooding continues after 4.5 to 7.5 inches fell since Saturday morning. Creeks and rivers should gradually recede.
Do not drive onto flooded roads or around barricades. Flooding can continue after rain ends as runoff reaches streams and rivers.
