The funeral for a Durham firefighter killed in the line of duty will take place in his hometown of Burlington, according to the Durham Fire Department.
Andrew Brokes was killed when a fire broke out at a building on Marly Drive in Durham, near South Miami Boulevard. Two other firefighters were hurt during the response. His procession from the Raleigh Medical Examiners' Office to his home in Burlington was held ahead of the services.
The department says his family will hold a visitation this upcoming Friday beginning at 4 p.m. at Lamb's Chapel, with the funeral service itself planned for the following day. The Durham Fire Department said the public is welcome to attend as they continue to mourn the death of Brokes, and donations may be made to the North Carolina Fallen Firefighters Foundation or the Fire Hero charity.
