Henry County high school graduations begin this week — expect traffic near Bassett, Magna Vista, and Patrick County

Drivers in Henry County and Martinsville should plan for heavy traffic and temporary lane configurations near area high schools as graduation ceremonies begin this week and run through late May 2026. More than 600 students from Bassett High School, Magna Vista High School, Patrick County High School, and Carlisle School are scheduled to receive their diplomas across a series of ceremonies.

Transportation officials ask motorists to allow extra travel time and to follow directions from traffic personnel at each venue. Vehicles entering school campuses will be directed using two lanes separated by cones, and drivers are asked not to switch lanes once guided in. Officials recommend arriving early to avoid delays at parking areas.

The graduation season represents one of the region's busiest traffic periods, with families traveling from across Henry County, Martinsville City, and adjacent localities. Specific ceremony dates and times are available through the Henry County Public Schools website and Martinsville City Public Schools website.

Drivers using US-220, US-58, and VA-57 to reach school campuses should also watch for school-zone speed reductions and pedestrian activity near venue entrances.
