— The chicken is ready, the staff has been practicing, and the grand opening is on the calendar. There’s just one small problem: the drive-thru still appears to be working out a few kinks.

Zaxby’s is scheduled to open its doors Monday morning at 10 a.m., but a Sunday night check found the restaurant’s drive-thru lanes still looking like a work in progress.

The menu boards were not working as of Sunday evening, and pylons were blocking both drive-thru lanes, leaving questions about whether customers will be able to order their chicken on the go when the restaurant officially opens.

Saturday brought a special VIP practice day, giving owners and managers an opportunity to work with the new restaurant ahead of its public opening. Those on hand were positive, welcoming and enthusiastic about getting the doors open.

The good news? The restaurant appears ready to welcome customers inside.

The remaining question is whether the drive-thru will be ready to join the party.

Zaxby’s is scheduled to open Monday at 10 a.m. Whether customers will be able to roll through the drive-thru or need to park and head inside remains to be seen.

Because nothing says opening-day excitement quite like crispy chicken, a new restaurant — and a drive-thru that may still be waiting for its close-up!

Star News will continue to monitor the opening and drive-thru status.
