Fundraiser Seeks Legal Defense Support for Jennifer Bowles Amid South Carolina Charges
A fundraiser titled “Standing With Jennifer: Legal Defense/Due Process” has been established to help cover legal expenses for Jennifer Bowles, the former Martinsville vice mayor who is facing criminal charges in South Carolina. Bowles, a University of Virginia graduate with a professional background in mental health and human resources, made history as Martinsville’s youngest Black woman to serve as vice mayor. Organizers say the fundraiser, created with her family’s approval, is intended to help secure qualified criminal-defense counsel and ensure she receives fair treatment throughout the judicial process.
The fundraiser’s organizers acknowledge the seriousness of the allegations while emphasizing Bowles’ right to due process and the presumption of innocence. They also cite concerns expressed by family and longtime friends about her mental and emotional well-being, saying they hope any relevant health concerns will be appropriately evaluated through proper legal and medical channels. Donations may help cover attorney fees, case preparation, professional evaluations arranged through legal counsel, and other approved defense-related expenses. Bowles is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
