Lancaster, S.C. — Former Martinsville Vice Mayor Jennifer Bowles is bringing in new legal representation as she prepares to fight the 15 criminal charges stemming from the October incident at a Home Depot parking lot in Lancaster, South Carolina.

Star News has learned that Bowles has hired attorney Twana Nakeya Burris-Alcide, of Rock Hill, South Carolina, to represent her in the case.

Burris-Alcide is a South Carolina attorney with a practice that includes criminal defense. She is associated with The Burris Legal Group.

15 CHARGES STILL HANGING OVER THE CASE

Bowles was arrested following an October 14 incident at the Home Depot on Highway 9 Bypass West in Lancaster.

According to previously reported booking information, the 15 charges include multiple counts of malicious injury to real and personal property, assault-related offenses and disorderly conduct The incident reportedly involved multiple vehicles being struck in the parking lot, leaving a number of vehicle owners dealing with damage and unanswered questions.

Bowles previously served as Martinsville's vice mayor, making the South Carolina case a matter of considerable interest back home in Virginia.

THE LEGAL FIGHT AHEAD

With new counsel now reportedly in place, attention turns to the next steps in the South Carolina court proceedings.

Will the new attorney challenge the charges, negotiate a resolution, or take the case to trial? Those questions remain unanswered.

One thing is certain: hiring a new attorney doesn't make the 15 charges disappear. The case will have to work its way through the South Carolina justice system.

Bowles is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
