Pasta company Buitoni will permanently close its Danville facility on or about Dec. 28, and all 251 employees are expected to lose their jobs, according to a WARN notice sent to the city.
The notice, sent to the mayor and filed under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, covers the plant at 201 Airside Drive in Danville. It states that all separations are expected Dec. 28, that affected employees are being notified individually or through their union representative, and that there will be no bumping rights because all positions at the facility are being eliminated. Workers are represented by the United Steel, Paper and Forestry, Rubber, Manufacturing, Energy, Allied Industrial and Service Workers International Union, Local 9555.
No reason has been given for the closure. The 240,000-square-foot plant opened in the late 1980s under Nestle and routinely employed more than 500 workers, making Buitoni refrigerated pastas and sauces and Nestle Toll House refrigerated cookie dough. Nestle sold the North American Buitoni business in 2020 to Brynwood Partners, cookie dough production moved to Burlington in 2022, and The Artisan Chef Manufacturing acquired Buitoni in 2024.
