Martinsville Sheriff Mike Law and Martinsville Police Officer Dakota Harmon were injured Friday in a motorcycle training ride, according to Police Chief Chad Rhoads.

Chief Rhoads said the sheriff and the officer were riding alongside each other on motorcycles near Martinsville Speedway when they came down an off-ramp and collided with each other. Both were taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries and were expected to be released Friday.

Virginia State Police are investigating the collision. The training ride came as race weekend brought thousands of visitors to the Martinsville area.
