Families across Martinsville, Henry County and Danville have a practical set of recreation items they can actually use as of Wednesday, June 17, 2026, with the freshest update coming from Henry County and the strongest near-term family picks coming from Danville.
At the Smith River Sports Complex, registration is now open for the 2026 Piedmont Youth Soccer League fall rec season. The posted program is open to boys and girls ages 3 to 11, with an Aug. 3, 2026 registration deadline, games beginning Sept. 12, and the season scheduled to finish before Nov. 1. The site lists the cost as $65 for Tiny Canes and $80 for U6 and up, with sibling discounts available.
In Danville, the easiest same-week family-use item may be Community Connections: Recreation for Youth, Teens and Families, which is scheduled for Friday, June 19, 2026, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Camp Grove Youth Center. Danville says the open recreation block includes activities such as basketball, volleyball, pickleball, family fitness classes, board games, arts and crafts, holiday-themed events and community celebrations.
Saturday’s clearest family anchor remains the Danville Children’s Festival, set for Saturday, June 20, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Carrington Pavilion. The city lists free admission, an “Enchanted” theme, crafts, children’s rides and hands-on educational activities.
Danville also continues to post active daytime recreation families can use immediately. The city’s parks pages still show Coates Day Camp and Adventure Camp II active on June 17 and June 18, and the city’s June 22 calendar already shows the next run of Coates Day Camp plus ENERGY summer programming at Camp Grove Youth Center and Green Street Recreation Center. Danville’s summer camp page says ENERGY serves ages 5 to 15, lunch is provided beginning June 1, and registration is available on-site, online or by phone.
For families working farther ahead, Danville still has youth football and youth football cheerleading registration posted through July 14, 2026 at Dan Daniel Memorial Park. Henry County also continues to push the Trailblazer Challenge, a self-paced 10-stop parks and trails checklist that asks participants to post photos using #TrailblazerChallengeHC for a chance to earn a T-shirt.
And for the longer holiday calendar, Danville now has a usable July 4 celebration timeline posted: 6 p.m. gates at Carrington Pavilion, the mayor at 7:15 p.m., Seven Til Sunrise at 7:25 p.m., and fireworks at dusk, weather permitting.
The practical takeaway for June 17 is to handle the fresh soccer signup now, use Friday and Saturday as the easiest family-event window, and save Danville’s July 4 details before the holiday weekend gets crowded.
