Drivers in Henry County should avoid a section of Mount Olivet Road after a storm-damaged pipe forced the roadway to close.
The closure affects Route 777 between Chatmoss Country Club and Route 620, also known as Old Liberty Road, according to a Virginia Department of Transportation alert published July 23 and updated July 24. Barricades are in place, and VDOT says the road is expected to remain closed for roughly two to three weeks while crews replace the pipe and repair the roadway, weather permitting.
Residents and through traffic should follow the signed detour: take Old Liberty Road to Route 58 east, then reconnect with Mount Olivet Road. Motorists should watch for message boards and avoid moving or driving around the barricades while the emergency work continues.
Because the repair schedule depends on weather and field conditions, drivers should check VDOT’s 511 Virginia service before traveling through the area. The agency said it will use the service and district updates for current road information.
