One dead, two injured in Martinsville’s Fayette Street shooting

An adult man died and two adult women were injured in an early Saturday shooting in the 400 block of Fayette Street in Martinsville, according to information confirmed to Star News.

The shooting was reported at about 4:14 a.m. Aug. 1. Martinsville Police Chief Chad Rhoads told Star News that the man died from his injuries and the two women survived and were receiving medical treatment. Their identities had not been released at the time of the report.

Rhoads said investigators had no suspect at that stage. In a later update, he said Fayette Street could remain closed for much of the day while detectives and crime-scene personnel collected evidence and documented the scene. Drivers were advised to avoid the area.
