Flood Watch covers Martinsville and Henry County through late Sunday

A Flood Watch remains in effect for Martinsville and Henry County through late Sunday night, Aug. 2. The National Weather Service in Blacksburg says flooding caused by excessive rainfall remains possible across the region.

The watch includes Henry County and the City of Martinsville, along with nearby Virginia and North Carolina counties. NWS says thunderstorms developing Sunday afternoon and evening may contain localized damaging wind gusts, frequent lightning and pockets of heavy rain that could result in flash flooding.

Excess runoff can flood creeks, streams, rivers, low-lying areas, poor-drainage spots and streets. A Flood Watch means conditions are favorable for flooding, not that flooding has been confirmed at a specific location.
