Flood Warning for Boone area; advisories expand to Mount Airy and Roanoke

Breaking weather alert: The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has upgraded south-central Ashe County, Watauga County and southwestern Wilkes County to a Flood Warning through 6 a.m. EDT Sunday, October 11. Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying locations is imminent or occurring.

Between 1.5 and 5 inches of rain had fallen in the warned area by 12:05 a.m., with up to 3 additional inches possible. The warning includes Boone, Blowing Rock, Deep Gap, Todd, Foscoe, Seven Devils and Aho.

Mount Airy region: A Flood Advisory remains in effect through 7:15 a.m. for central Surry County, southeastern Carroll County, south-central Floyd County and southwestern Patrick County. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected around Mount Airy, Fairview, Flat Rock, Hillsville, Dobson and Cana after 2 to 3 inches of rain, with another 1 to 3 inches expected.

Roanoke region: A Flood Advisory remains in effect through 8:30 a.m. for Montgomery County, northeastern Pulaski County, Radford, Roanoke County, Roanoke, Salem and nearby areas. Minor flooding and urban ponding are ongoing or imminent around Roanoke, Blacksburg, Salem, Christiansburg, Radford and Vinton.

Do not drive onto flooded roads. Use extra caution overnight because floodwater is harder to see in darkness.
