Roanoke County and the Roanoke Valley Transportation Planning Organization have submitted four 2026 SMART SCALE applications aimed at safety and multimodal improvements along the Peters Creek Road and Williamson Road corridors.
The county lists an estimated $12.0 million application for the Peters Creek Road and Airport Road/Archcrest Drive intersection, $11.4 million for the Barrens Road intersection, $32.0 million for a Peters Creek Road/Williamson Road roundabout and $49.4 million for corridor improvements from Airport Road to Williamson Road. Together, the published estimates total about $104.8 million.
The applications grow out of a county study covering the corridor between Wood Haven Road and Plantation Road. The county says funding recommendations are expected to go to the Commonwealth Transportation Board in January 2027, with selected projects slated for the Six-Year Improvement Program adopted in June 2027.
