Roanoke receives $6.25 million for lead-safety work in up to 150 homes

Roanoke has received $6.25 million to expand lead-hazard removal through its Lead Safe Roanoke program, the city announced Sept. 8.

The grant is expected to support work in as many as 150 local homes over three years. The city says applications are accepted on a rolling basis through its online program.

Listed eligibility requirements include living in the City of Roanoke, occupying a home built before 1978 that is not in a floodplain, having a child age 5 or younger who lives in or regularly visits the home, and meeting income guidelines.

Services can include professional cleaning, painting, window or door replacement and repairs to damaged painted surfaces, along with a broader home safety evaluation. Residents should review the city's application requirements before assuming they qualify.
