VDOT sets Oct. 1 meeting on Route 460 and Route 220 Alternate work

Virginia transportation officials will hold a public-information meeting Oct. 1 on upcoming roadwork affecting Route 460, also known as Challenger Avenue, and Route 220 Alternate, or Cloverdale Road, in Roanoke County.

The “Pardon Our Dust” meeting is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Bonsack Elementary School, 5437 Crumpacker Drive, Roanoke. VDOT says brief presentations are planned for 5:15 and 6:15 p.m., with representatives available to answer questions.

The Route 460 project starts at Blue Hills Village Drive and extends about 1.1 miles east. The Route 220 Alternate project starts 0.29 mile east of Route 1220, or Huntridge Road, and extends about 0.5 mile east, according to the Salem District notice.

Officials say the projects will address traffic flow and safety by reconfiguring multiple intersections. The notice describes possible designs including a restricted crossing U-turn, a thru-cut and a displaced-left-turn intersection. Drivers and nearby residents can use the meeting to ask about construction impacts and traffic management before work begins.
