Roanoke launches RoVa Labs partnership to expand regional biotech growth

The City of Roanoke announced on April 13, 2026 that it approved a memorandum of understanding with Carilion Clinic establishing RoVa Labs at Carilion Clinic in the Roanoke Innovation Corridor.

City and partner statements describe the facility as shared wet-lab and startup support infrastructure intended to accelerate biotech commercialization, talent retention, and regional research-to-market activity.

For the Roanoke Valley desk, the agreement is a high-impact economic and workforce development signal tied to longer-term employment and advanced-industry growth.

The release said RoVa Labs is expected to generate about 250 jobs over five years as partnership programming scales.
