Dense fog may cut visibility to quarter-mile across mountain counties Thursday morning

WEATHER ALERT: Pockets of fog, dense at times, may reduce visibility to one-quarter mile or less in localized areas during the morning commute, according to the National Weather Service office in Blacksburg.

The statement covers Ashe, Watauga and Wilkes counties in North Carolina and Pulaski, Montgomery, Grayson, Carroll and Floyd counties in Virginia within the GetStarNews coverage corridor. It is in effect until 8 a.m. EDT Thursday, Oct. 16, 2026.

Drivers should allow extra travel time, slow down for reduced visibility and use low-beam headlights. High beams can reflect from fog and make it harder to see.
