The Board of Supervisors voted on November 17, 2020, to leave the Confederate statue at the Rocky Mount courthouse.
The board acted two weeks after the advisory referendum, in which more than half of voters chose to leave the statue in place. Local NAACP members later redirected their efforts to a monument honoring Black soldiers.
