Patrick County schedules Sept. 28 public work session on ZiTel fiber project

The Patrick County Board of Supervisors plans a public work session on Monday, Sept. 28, at 6 p.m., to hear an update from ZiTel on the county's fiber expansion project.

The meeting is scheduled for the Veteran's Memorial Building at 106 Rucker St. in Stuart. The county's announcement says ZiTel has taken over the regional broadband project after agreements with state and local partners were finalized.

The release describes a multi-million-dollar project supported by Virginia Telecommunication Initiative grants and federal American Rescue Plan funding. It says the transition is intended to connect thousands of previously unserved or underserved homes and businesses and will not require additional local taxpayer funding beyond existing grants and matching funds.

Residents and businesses inside the targeted grant map can use the work session to hear the latest construction and deployment information. Project timing for individual addresses should be confirmed directly with county or provider updates.
