Flood Watch issued for Floyd and Patrick counties through Sunday evening

Weather alert: The National Weather Service in Blacksburg issued a Flood Watch at 1:43 p.m. EDT Thursday, October 9, for Floyd and Patrick counties. The watch is in effect from 11 a.m. EDT Saturday, October 10, through 8 p.m. EDT Sunday, October 11.

Widespread rainfall totals of 2 to 4 inches are expected along the southern Blue Ridge, with isolated totals of 5 to 6 inches possible. The National Weather Service said the highest totals may occur in parts of Patrick County, including the Meadows of Dan area.

Excessive runoff could cause flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, low-lying roads and other flood-prone locations. Street flooding and flooding at low-water crossings are possible. The weather service also said isolated landslides could occur near modified slopes, embankments and cut slopes.

Residents in flood-prone areas should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to act if Flood Warnings are issued.
