Patrick County Route 58 and East Fork Road remain on VDOT watch

Patrick County drivers remain under several VDOT watch items this week, including a Route 676 closure and continuing work on the Route 58 Lover's Leap and Vesta projects.

The Salem District says a portion of Route 676, East Fork Road, is closed for pipe replacement from 1.0 mile north of Route 672, Johnson Creek Road, to 0.3 mile south of Route 673, Sky View Drive. The listed detour uses Route 672, Route 677, and Route 673, with completion scheduled for Friday, May 22, weather permitting.

VDOT also lists Route 8 and Route 836 intersection improvements, with intermittent one-lane flagging expected during the project. On Route 58, the Lover's Leap project includes traffic pattern changes, a 45 mph speed reduction, flagging operations, and blasting notices that can stop traffic for about 15 to 20 minutes when work is close to the road.

For Stuart, Meadows of Dan, and the mountain corridor, the combined notices are important because Route 58 is both a local connector and a regional freight and tourism route. Drivers should build in extra time and watch message boards, especially during weekday work windows.
