Winston-Salem water system returns to normal after main-break repairs

Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Utilities says the area's water distribution system has returned to normal following repairs and testing tied to the late-July water-main break.

The utility's final update, posted at 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, says laboratory testing confirmed the newly installed section of main met water-quality and operating requirements. The repaired main is back in service, and repairs, flushing, monitoring and restoration work associated with the incident are complete.

The precautionary boil-water advisory was lifted July 31 after testing found water in the affected distribution areas safe for consumption. Customers may resume regular water use without restrictions, according to the utility.

The original advisory followed a loss of pressure that created the possibility of back-siphonage into the system. The utility says normal routine monitoring will continue; questions can be directed to CityLink at 336-727-8000 or 311 within city limits.
