President Donald Trump has instructed that the entire southern border wall be painted black. This decision aims to deter migrants from crossing because the black color will make the wall too hot to touch, as explained by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.
While speaking near the border in New Mexico on Tuesday, Noem announced that crews have started painting parts of the 30-foot tall steel bollards that form the wall. She noted that this order came directly from Trump. The expectation is that the dark paint will help prevent rust and discourage migrants from climbing the wall by increasing its heat under the intense desert sun.
