**Richmond, VA** – Governor Glenn Youngkin announced on Wednesday that a significant portion of the Virginia Lottery's record profits will be allocated to K-12 public education, amounting to $934 million. This funding marks the highest profit in the Lottery's 36-year history, totaling an impressive $5.5 billion for the 2024 fiscal year.
The substantial profits have been generated through 5,300 businesses across the state, as well as via the Lottery’s mobile app. Governor Youngkin expressed his enthusiasm for the funding, stating, “Over the course of my administration, we have been able to achieve record funding for K-12 education, allowing for increased opportunities in the classroom.” He emphasized that approximately 10 percent of Virginia's K-12 education budget is derived from Lottery profits, providing essential support for public schools.
Khalid Jones, Executive Director of the Virginia Lottery, acknowledged the hard work of Lottery employees, saying, “The record profits are a byproduct of every Lottery employee’s extreme dedication to our mission of contributing to our K-12 public schools one play at a time.” He expressed pride in the Lottery's ability to deliver substantial funding for the Commonwealth once again.
