Flood Advisory issued for Ashe, Watauga and Wilkes counties until 3:30 a.m.

Weather alert: The National Weather Service in Blacksburg issued a Flood Advisory at 9:39 p.m. EDT Saturday, October 10, for south-central Ashe County, Watauga County and southwestern Wilkes County. The advisory remains in effect until 3:30 a.m. EDT Sunday, October 11.

Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in low-lying and poor-drainage areas. Dangerous flows are possible over low-water crossings. Between 1 and 4.5 inches of rain had fallen since early Saturday afternoon, and up to 3 additional inches were expected through early Sunday morning.

The advisory includes Boone, Blowing Rock, Deep Gap, Todd, Foscoe, Seven Devils and Aho. Affected drainages include Laurel Fork, Left Prong Stony Fork, Norris Fork, Dutch Creek, Grassy Creek, Flat Branch, Mill Creek, Brushy Fork, Dugger Creek, Fall Creek, Meat Camp Creek, Elk Creek and Little Dugger Creek.

Do not drive onto flooded roads. The weather service advises extra caution at night, when flooding can be harder to recognize.
