Flood Advisory extended to 6 p.m. for Ashe and Watauga counties

The National Weather Service extended the Ashe and Watauga County Flood Advisory until 6 p.m. Sunday as minor flooding and dangerous low-water crossings continue.

Flood Advisory extended to 6 p.m. for Ashe and Watauga counties

Weather alert: The National Weather Service in Blacksburg extended the Flood Advisory for Ashe and Watauga counties until 6 p.m. EDT Sunday, Oct. 11, 2026.

In an update issued at 4:51 p.m., the Weather Service said minor flooding was already occurring after 4 to 7 inches of rain. Water remains over some roads, and dangerous flows are possible at low-water crossings.

Jefferson, West Jefferson, Beech Mountain, Lansing, Ashland, Glendale Springs and Sugar Grove are among the locations named in the advisory. Affected drainages include the South Fork New River, Big Horse Creek, Beaverdam Creek, Brushy Fork, Big Laurel Creek, Beech Creek, Beaver Creek, Call Creek and Cove Creek.

Drivers should not enter flooded roads or drive around barricades. Turn around and use another route.
