CHATHAM, Va. — A Stage 2 Water Emergency — Drought Warning remains active for Town of Chatham water users and Pittsylvania County customers whose water is supplied by the town, according to the county's official alert center.
The declaration took effect September 10, 2026, and the county posted the alert at 1:10 p.m. EDT September 11, 2026. Officials urge affected customers to begin conserving water as soon as possible.
The alert specifically includes county customers along Dry Fork Road, Mill Creek Road, Robin Court and U.S. 29 between Tightsqueeze and Dry Fork.
Officials cited a lack of rainfall, drought-like conditions through much of 2026 and falling water levels at Cherrystone Lake and Roaring Fork Lake. The Stage 2 emergency remains in place until drought conditions ease and lake levels recover, or until officials issue a Stage 3 or Stage 4 declaration.
Customers should follow any additional conservation directions issued by the Town of Chatham and confirm current information through the official alert before changing essential water use.
