Southside Virginia and the nearby North Carolina border counties should keep weather alerts close Tuesday as thunderstorms move through the region.
The National Weather Service Blacksburg office issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook at 4:13 a.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2026, for Pittsylvania County, Caswell County and nearby Southside Virginia counties. The outlook says there is a Marginal Risk of severe weather, with thunderstorms that may contain damaging winds and heavy rain leading to flash flooding.
This is an outlook, not a local warning. Conditions can still change quickly if storms strengthen, especially for drivers, outdoor crews, summer camps, evening recreation and residents in low-lying or poor-drainage areas.
- What to know: Marginal risk means isolated severe storms are possible, not guaranteed.
- Who is affected: Danville, Pittsylvania County, Caswell County and travelers on Route 29, Route 58 and nearby rural roads.
- Safety action: Move indoors if thunder is heard, avoid flooded roads and monitor later NWS warnings or local emergency alerts.
The Raleigh NWS outlook also notes weekend heat-index values of 100 to 105 for parts of central North Carolina, including Guilford and Forsyth, so Triad readers should begin planning for heat safety later this week.
