A 25-year-old man was taken into custody after a stabbing reported Wednesday morning at a Rockingham County home, authorities said.
On Nov. 4 at about 9:15 a.m., the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office received a call to 369 Gideon Grove Church Road about a stabbing with the suspect still on scene. Deputies S. Carbone and A. Pyrtle arrived shortly after and took Brantley Gage Butler, 25, of the same address, into custody. A woman was found at the scene suffering from several stab wounds and needing immediate medical attention, and Deputy A. Pyrtle began assessing her injuries until first responders arrived. The woman was transported to Cone Hospital and was listed in stable condition, and her name was not released.
Detectives responded and began an investigation. Butler was charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and a crime of domestic violence, and the incident remained under investigation. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Sheriff Parker praised the response from deputies, Rockingham County EMS and the Huntsville Fire Department, saying the quick response and immediate control of the suspect and scene were monumental in getting the victim the medical assistance she needed.
