Burger in the Square, a longtime Roanoke County burger restaurant, will close in mid-October, according to the restaurant's social media.

In its statement, the restaurant said: "After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to close Burger In The Square!, effective Thursday October 15th, 2026. Our last day of operations will be Wednesday, October 14th." The owners said the decision was not made lightly and thanked their guests, employees and the community for their dedication and support, adding that it has been a privilege to serve the community.

No specific reason has been given. For nearly 40 years, Burger in the Square has been "your belly's best friend" since Bill and Dremma Gaul opened it in the City Market Building, which is where the square in the name comes from, referencing Market Square. Louis Wilson and his wife Anita took over in 1999 and moved to Brambleton Avenue in 2009.
