Eden Woman Accused of Hiding Meth During Jail Booking

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. — A 35-year-old Eden woman is facing additional felony charges after detention officers allegedly discovered methamphetamine hidden on her person during the booking process at the Rockingham County Detention Facility.

According to the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office, Laura Ashley Sayre was brought to the facility on October 25, 2026, after being arrested by another law enforcement agency.

During the initial booking process and search before she was placed in the detention facility, Sgt. I. Daniels and Sgt. T. Kentrolis allegedly discovered a baggie containing a suspicious substance concealed on Sayre.

A detention facility investigator was notified and collected the suspected contraband for testing. Authorities said the substance tested positive for methamphetamine.

Sayre was subsequently charged with:

Felony possession of methamphetamine

Felony possession of a controlled substance on prison or jail premises

Sayre was taken back before a magistrate, who set a $10,000 secured bond on the new charges. She was then placed in the Rockingham County Detention Facility, where she was scheduled to appear in court on October 26, 2026.

Sheriff Billy Parker praised the detention officers for their thorough searches and vigilance, saying the facility has implemented additional booking and search procedures designed to prevent contraband from entering the jail.

The sheriff’s office said the procedures are intended to protect both detention personnel and inmates while maintaining a safe, secure facility.

Parker specifically commended Daniels and Kentrolis for their professionalism and efforts to prevent illegal drugs from entering the detention center.
