Forest, Va. — What started as an ordinary stop for gas quickly turned into a frightening scene when a gas pump at the Sheetz on Forest Road burst into flames Thursday.
A woman who witnessed the incident described the chaotic first moments as emergency crews were called to the scene.
“I was on the phone with 911. I was like, ‘I've never seen anything like this before,’” the witness told WSET, recalling the frightening experience.
Firefighters remained at the scene for a couple of hours as crews worked to deal with the blaze and ensure the area was safe.
A fire involving a gas pump can turn dangerous in a hurry, making a rapid response critical when flames break out around fuel equipment.
The cause of the fire and the extent of any damage were not provided in the information available.
