ROCKY MOUNT, Va. — Rocky Mount Mayor Holland Perdue is remembering legendary football coach Billy Miles as a leader whose influence extended far beyond the football field.

Following the news of Coach Miles' passing, Mayor Perdue shared a heartfelt tribute honoring the longtime Franklin County High School coach and the lasting impact he had on generations of student-athletes.

"Our community is saddened by the passing of Coach Billy Miles," Perdue said. "Coach Miles made a lasting impact on Franklin County High School and on the many student-athletes whose lives he helped shape."

Miles served as head football coach at Franklin County High School from 2000 to 2005, guiding the Eagles through one of the most successful eras in program history. During his tenure, he led the team to the school's first Division 6 playoff appearance in 2002, a milestone that cemented his place in Franklin County football history.

His accomplishments and dedication to student-athletes later earned him induction into the Franklin County High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
