Operation Piedmont Pipeline, launched June 1, 2026, by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Charlotte Field Division, was an intelligence-driven enforcement initiative targeting firearms trafficking, illegal narcotics, and criminal activity across the region.
The operation concluded September 30, 2026, with substantial results involving numerous law enforcement agencies working together to disrupt criminal operations.
According to figures provided by the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office, the operation resulted in: - 104 defendants charged, including 72 federal and 32 state defendants - Approximately 75 criminal investigations - 229 ATF enforcement operations - 46 federal and state search warrants executed - 163 firearms and 6 National Firearms Act firearms seized - 102 machine-gun conversion devices seized - More than 37 kilograms of illegal narcotics seized, including cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin, and fentanyl - $137,318 in U.S. currency seized Rockingham County Sheriff Billy Parker emphasized that cooperation between law enforcement agencies is essential in combating criminal organizations that operate across county and state lines.
The Sheriff's Office works alongside numerous agencies, including the ATF, DEA, U.S. Marshals Service, North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, Alcohol Law Enforcement, and police departments in Greensboro, High Point, Winston-Salem, and Asheboro.
Additional partnerships include the Forsyth, Alamance, and Randolph County Sheriff's Offices, along with federal and local prosecutors.
These working relationships allow investigators to share intelligence, coordinate operations, and pursue individuals involved in illegal firearms and drug activity across multiple jurisdictions.
"The Rockingham County Sheriff's Office is 100% committed to these partnerships," Sheriff Parker stated.
He also made it clear that the effort to combat criminal activity is far from over.
"This is just the beginning. Stay tuned," Parker added.
The Sheriff's Office says its commitment remains focused on protecting neighborhoods, removing dangerous drugs and illegal firearms from communities, and holding those responsible for criminal activity accountable.
Officials emphasized that criminal organizations do not recognize county or state boundaries, making cooperation between law enforcement agencies increasingly important.
Sheriff Parker and the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office say they will continue utilizing available resources and strengthening partnerships to address threats to public safety.
The message from the Sheriff's Office is clear: Crime doesn't stop at county or state lines, and neither will the efforts to combat it.
The department says its ultimate mission remains unchanged: keeping Rockingham County safe for the people who call it home.
