— A new chapter is beginning at one of the Danville area's important community organizations as the board of directors of God’s Storehouse has announced Suzie Vaughan as its new executive director.

Vaughan will succeed longtime executive director Karen Harris, who has led the nonprofit food pantry for more than 14 years.

The leadership transition will include a period of working together, with Vaughan joining Harris to learn the organization's operations before Harris officially retires on January 29, 2027.

Vaughan brings a background in nonprofit leadership, business management, fundraising and community service. She founded and serves as executive director of It Takes a Village Project, Inc., a nonprofit organization serving youth and young adults in Rockingham County, North Carolina.

Her previous experience also includes serving as director of operations at Pennrose Park Country Club, along with management positions at Versona and Tuesday Morning.

God’s Storehouse Board Chair Shelby Irving said the organization is excited to welcome Vaughan, noting that her experience in nonprofit leadership, operations and community engagement will help strengthen the organization's mission.

As executive director, Vaughan will oversee daily operations, support staff and volunteers, work with the board of directors and develop relationships with donors and community partners.

God’s Storehouse provides food assistance to individuals and families throughout Danville and Pittsylvania County, relying on donations and the support of volunteers, local businesses, churches and community organizations.

For Harris, the transition marks the end of more than 14 years of leadership and service to families throughout the community.
