Runners looking for a muddy late-summer challenge can sign up for Henry County Parks and Recreation's Helgramite Hustle 5K Mud Run on Saturday, Aug. 22, at Smith River Sports Complex.
The course is described as an obstacle-filled 5K with mud pits, a creek crossing and obstacles to climb over, under and through. The run begins at 11 a.m. at the complex in Axton.
Registration is listed at $30 through Aug. 7, $35 from Aug. 8 through Aug. 21 and $40 on race day. The county asks interested participants to call Parks and Recreation at 276-634-4640 for more information.
The mud run is part of Smith River Fest, a free-admission outdoor celebration at the complex that also includes river activities, vendors and the Smith River Race. The festival site is listed at 1000 Irisburg Road, Axton; admission and parking are free.
